Malvern Writers’ Circle Annual Dinner

I attended the Malvern Writers’ Circle Annual Dinner at the Foley Arms Hotel. Guest speaker James Delingpole, The Daily Telegraph’s wittiest blogger, was born and brought up in Alvechurch, educated at Malvern College and was at Oxford with David Cameron and Boris Johnson. His speech – based solely on questions written by the audience – ranged in topic from the dreadful state of British publishing, through Obamaland, to anthropogenic global warming. In what threatened to be a heated debate with one member of the audience, James argued the case against man-made climate change to the point were his adversary threw up her arms and said: “I had three husbands just like you …” it got the biggest laugh of the night.
